Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)
Dallas Area Rapid Transit serves Dallas and 12 surrounding cities with more than 130 bus routes, 44 miles of light rail transit, 21 freeway miles of HOV lane transportation, and paratransit service for the mobility impaired.
Currently, the DART Rail System is slated grow to 93 miles through 2014. Extension is currently under way for the 17.5-mile Northwest Corridor serving downtown Dallas, American Airlines Center, the Dallas Medical/Market Center, Love Field Airport, and the cities of Farmers Branch and Carrollton. A 13 mile branch will extend from there to North Irving's Las Colinas Urban Center and DFW International Airport. Another extension will serve the Southeast Corridor connection downtown Dallas, Deep Ellum, Fair Park, South Dallas and Pleasant Grove.
DART's bus routse cover more than 700-square miles over 13 cities. The fleet of nearly 800 buses is powered by either clean diesel or liquefied natural gas. The buses are equiped with comfortable seating, climate control systems designed for the scorching Texas heat, innovative features such as audio and digital route announcement systems, wheelchair lifts and kneeling capability to accomodate customers with disabilites.
