State Fair of Texas

Come to the State Fair of Texas for a fun-filled day with the family in the Texas autumn. Experience tradition in the 277-acre Fair Park located just two miles south of downtown Dallas. Check out live music at the Main Stage, an outdoor venue surrounded by a vast blacktop and some seating areas on nearby grass. The Main Stage is primarily a standing venue with available seating areas for those with special physical needs.

As if music weren't enough, there is a midway full of rides for thrill-seekers at the State Fair of Texas as well as car shows and different kinds of expositions, not to mention football. The fair is host to two traditional games, the Red River Shootout and the State Fair Classic. The Red River Shootout played yearly between Texas and Oklahoma and is in itself an event with incredible drawing power. The Prairie View A&M Panthers and Grambling State Tigers play "the other big game" at Fair Park before the Red River Shootout.

Highlights of the 2003 State Fair of Texas include:

  • The Taste & See Pavilion which includes gourmet kitchens, landscape design, wine tasting opportunities, product sampling, gardening tips, book signings and shopping opportunities.
  • "Holidays at the White House" - A traditional holiday decor is featured in a remarkable 20'x60' replica of the White House. This detailed model showcases authentic reproductions of furniture, carpets and portraits; tiny telephones ring, and miniature television sets actually work.
  • "Little Hands on the Farm" - A complete farming experience for children where they experience every aspect of a farmer's life from planting to profit.
  • "Spirit of Dance" - A show that captures the spirit of the Irish dance tradition.
  • "Birds of the World" - An annual exhibit for fifteen consecutive years that features Steve Martin's free-flight bird show.
